Supporting New York State artists and writers

Since 1995, the Saltonstall Foundation has supported New York State artists and writers. Our signature program, the juried residencies, have always been free to attend and include free room and board.

Additionally, we are one of the few residencies that provides stipend support. This support is modest ($375 and $750 for each two- and four-week resident, respectively), but it can often be a deciding factor into whether an artist or writer can accept our invitation.

Increasing our support

Inflation is for real this year! And as most of you know, inflation has a disproportionate impact on a demographic common in creative fields: lower-income, younger, often freelance workers who self-fund their creative projects.

For this year’s Giving is Gorges, with your help, we’d like to raise additional stipend support for this season’s artists and writers.

We’re honored to welcome more Ithaca artists and writers this residency season than ever before! Below, l-r: artist Maryam Adib; writer Maria Isabel Alvarez; poet Clare Jones; and artist Grace Sachi Troxell. You can read more about all 30 of our artist and writer Fellows here.
