Sarah McCoubrey (1997, 2002)

sarahmccoubreySarah McCoubrey received her B.A, B.F.A, and M.F.A from the University of Pennsylvania. She is landscape painter who adds surreal elements to the painting like floating landscapes to flying potatoes. Her work is often a commentary on her surrounding environments.

 

She exhibits regularly in solo and group exhibitions in nationally-recognized venues, and is currently represented by the Locks Gallery in Philadelphia. She has received recognition for her work and a number of awards, including New York State Council for the Arts Fellowship, NYFA Fellowship in Painting, a NYFA Special Opportunity Stipend, a Ballinglen Foundation Residency in Ireland Fellowship, the Milton Avery Foundation Fellowship to the Millay Colony, a MacDowell Colony Fellowship, a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant Award, and an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant Award.

 

McCoubrey also is working on the creation of an “archive,” Hannah Morse: Landscape Painter, a fictional 19th-century landscape painter and inventor. She received a fellowship from the American Antiquarian Society and a NYSCA Sites Re-seen grant for research and development of this project.

 

She currently resides in Fayetteville, NY and is a professor at Syracuse University where she teaches drawing, color, and painting.
