Vicky Madden (2016)

Vicki Madden is a New York City public school teacher who writes about the American Dream–education, identity, class change, and inheritance of all kinds: physical, psychological, financial, geographical–combining memoir with research-based American history to explore questions of freedom and mobility. She has a BA and MA from Columbia University and an MFA from Queens University. She’s enjoyed a residency Saltonstall Arts Colony and served as Writer-in-Residence for Whitman College’s First-Gen Program. Her publication credits include The New York Times, where her essay made all the Top Ten lists: most tweeted, emailed, viewed and shared. In 2019, she was chosen as an Emerging Writer Fellow at the literary magazine, A Public Space.
