“The labor-intensive and meditative process is employed to highlight and pay homage to individuals and everyday activities of life. In framing art-production as labor, the discourse of my work derives not only from formal decisions but rather metaphysical exploration and the process of creating the work, beyond the physical appearance.”
Injoo Whang holds a B.F.A from Hong-Ik University in Seoul, Korea and a M.F.A from Parsons School of Design. Her work is an examination of the inter-connectedness between the individual and the collective. She uses single pattern cut outs of paper or fabric to create bigger drawings or installation. Whang is interested in creating energy through the collective and visual illusions. She currently resides in Elmhurst, NY.
