Eric Berlin (2016)

Eric Berlin is a poet living near Syracuse, New York, where he teaches courses at the Downtown Writer’s Center like Ear Training for Poets, Improv and The Poetics of Prayer. His poems received The Ledge 2014 Poetry Prize and were runners-up for the Tor House Poetry Award, Able Muse Write Prize, Tupelo Quarterly Poetry Prize, and Ruth Stone Prize. They have appeared or are forthcoming in North American Review, Jewish Currents, Stone Canoe and The Poetry Review.

He received an MFA in Sculpture from NY Academy of Art, an MFA in Poetry from Syracuse University, and a BA in English from Harvard University. Continual threads in his work have been the rhythm of language and the role of improvisation in creative recovery. Having received fellowships from Art Farm and Vermont Studio Center, he’s now writing two craft books – one on the use of poetic patterning in stand-up and another exploring the musicality of language as viewed by six different religions. He is also completing a book of poems.
