Colleen is the author of the guidebook Delaying the Real World: A Twentysomething’s Guide to Seeking Adventure(Running Press, 2005). Her essays and articles have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New Republic, Salon.com, Ms Magazine, The New York Times, Washingtonpost.com, The Gettysburg Review, Witness, Ninth Letter, Prairie Schooner and The Kenyon Review, along with several anthologies. She co-edited Confessions of a High School Word Nerd (Penguin, 2007).
Colleen is a graduate of Yale University and holds an MFA in nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa. She’s a former Fulbright Scholar, Breadloaf Writing Conference waiter, and MacDowell Colony fellow. Her travel photography has appeared in The New York Times, The Chicago Sun-Times and Fodor’s. She teaches writing at Yale.
