Our beautiful new accessible space is available for visual artists or writers. You do not need to have a physical disability or mobility issue to use this space. However, if you are non-disabled and book the space and a disabled artist or writer requests time at Saltonstall, we will ask you to move to another unit if one is available.
This space includes a one-bedroom suite with an accessible bathroom (with roll-in shower), an accessible studio, and a shared accessible kitchen.
These three spaces are all on one level and are barrier-free. Pocket doors separate the bedroom from the studio and the studio from the kitchen. There is also a pocket door to the bathroom. An automatic door opens from the parking area directly into the studio.
The bedroom includes a full-size bed, a writing desk, an open shelving unit, and a reading chair. The studio includes a utility sink and a variety of tables and easels.
The accessible kitchen includes a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, side-opening oven, four-burner cooktop, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, toaster, blender, glassware, dishware, pots, pans, and everything you need to prepare meals. There is wheelchair access under the sink and the cooktop. (Note: the photo of the kitchen was taken before we were fully moved in!)
For artists or writers with disabilities who require a personal care assistant: a separate, private one-bedroom suite for an assistant is located directly across the vestibule from the accessible bedroom. This suite includes a private bathroom. It’s designated as “Studio building, downstairs writer’s suite” on the booking page. Please reach out directly for more detailed descriptions of our spaces or with any other questions.
