A juried residency for individual circus artists!

We are excited to announce that Saltonstall will be hosting Hupstate, the only residency of its kind for individual circus artists in New York State.

The brainchild of Amy Cohen, founder of Ithaca’s very own circus school, Circus Culture, Hupstate will take place April 3 – 9, 2023.

Hupstate will include many of the hallmarks of a traditional Saltonstall residency — private accommodations, stipend support, chef-prepared dinners — plus 6 hours a day of shared studio time at Circus Culture in downtown Ithaca.

Important dates:

  • Residency: April 3 – 9
  • Application deadline: February 15
  • Final selections announced: March 1

The Hupstate residency is designed to provide a generous and spacious environment for the development of the circus arts in New York State and/or Indian Nations based therein by giving individual circus artists the time and space to develop, polish, investigate, or work on an idea or project of their choosing.

There are six residency spaces open to individual artists during this round

Similar to a Saltonstall residency, it is free to apply and to attend Hupstate.
