Calla Thompson (1999)

calla thompsonCalla Thompson is a digital photographer who uses montage techniques and drawings to create her large installations. In her work she examines the ways that power is enacted in our culture. She received her B.F.A from the University of Ottawa in Canada and her M.F.A from Syracuse University.

 

Thompson’s work is exhibited throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, Europe, Mexico, South America, and China.  This includes solo exhibitions in Toronto at Gallery 44: The Centre for Contemporary Photography and Open Studio Gallery; in Washington, DC at Project 4 Gallery; and in New York City at Soho 20.  Her group exhibitions include those at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University; the International Photography Biennial by invitation of the Centro Colombo Americano de Medellin in Columbia; New Galerie, Paris; The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art; the Arlington Arts Center in Virginia; The Painted Bride Arts Center in Philadelphia; the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse; the Korean Cultural Center Gallery of Los Angeles; and Para/Site Art Space in Hong Kong.

 

She is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County.
