Poets, Javier Zamora (’15) and Monica Sok (’16), have placed second and third, respectively, in the Narrative 30 Below Story & Poetry Contest.

Javier Zamora was born in La Herradura, El Salvador, in 1990. At the age of nine he migrated to the United States to be reunited with his parents.  Read his second place piece here.

Monica Sok is Cambodian-American and much of her work addresses the trauma experienced by her family during the Khmer Rouge regime. “There’s a lot of silence around our history,” she says, speaking about her family. “Language is very important to how we remember our history. What speaks to me most is how we remember. And I want to remember through poetry.”  Read Monica’s third place piece here.
